Custom Awnings in Mijas, Marbella and the Costa del Sol

Cortidea has been designing and installing custom awnings on the Costa del Sol since 1995. Our showroom is on Carretera de Mijas km. 3, and we install across Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola and the wider Costa del Sol.

Whether you need a retractable arm awning for a terrace, a cassette awning for a villa, a veranda or pergola awning for a covered patio, a vertical drop awning for a window or balcony, or a traditional palillería drop-arm awning for a shopfront, we offer manual and motorised options from leading European brands.

Every project starts with a free home consultation, exact measurement and a no-obligation quote. We supply Saxun, Gaviota, Siplan and Luxaflex, chosen for build quality and warranty support, and we install awnings designed for the Spanish climate, sun strength and coastal wind exposure.

Siplan opens its’ doors in Seville in 1993. All products are designed and manufactured 100% in Spain, in order to ensure design, innovation and quality in each one of them.
Sixty years of refinement in awning design. Saxun systems run from compact retractable arms to large cassette and pergola installations, with full motorisation across the range. Wide choice of fabrics, including outdoor-grade acrylics for the Costa del Sol sun.
Gaviota is a global leader in the manufacture of accessories and systems for canopies, pergolas and roller shutters. They have an international presence based in Spain (Alicante) and 50 years of experience in the sun protection sector, with a high industrial production capacity.

Types of Awnings We Install

Retractable arm awnings

The most popular awning style for Costa del Sol terraces. Folding arms extend the canvas outward from the wall, giving full shade when open and tucking neatly back when closed. Available in manual and motorised versions, with optional wind and sun sensors. We supply Saxun, Gaviota and Luxaflex retractable arm systems.

Cassette and full-cassette awnings

A retractable arm awning with a fully enclosed casing that protects the fabric and mechanism when closed. Best for exposed locations and properties used part of the year. Longer fabric life and a cleaner architectural finish. Saxun and Gaviota cassette systems are our most installed.

Vertical drop awnings

Mounted above a window or balcony and dropped vertically to block direct sun and reduce glare. Ideal for west-facing windows and ground-floor terraces. Available in PVC and acrylic fabrics, motorised or manual.

Veranda and pergola awnings

Designed for permanent terrace coverings. Run on guides between two supports or over a pergola structure to give consistent shade across the full terrace. Compatible with retractable side curtains and integrated lighting.

Drop-arm awnings (palillería)

A traditional Spanish awning style, with the front bar dropping down on hinged arms. Common above shopfronts and terraces in older Spanish properties. We can supply replacement frames, fabric covers, and full new installations.

Box and conservatory awnings

Fully enclosed and weather-sealed when closed. Best for installations where the awning is left out for long stretches in mixed weather. Excellent for coastal properties exposed to wind and salt air.

Awning Installations Across Mijas and Marbella

Mijas

We install awnings throughout Mijas, including Las Lagunas (where our showroom sits), Mijas Pueblo, La Cala de Mijas and Calahonda. Each area has different sun exposure and wind patterns. Coastal Calahonda properties typically need cassette or box awnings to handle the wind off the sea, while inland Mijas Pueblo terraces work well with retractable arm systems.

Marbella

Our awning installations in Marbella cover Nueva Andalucía, San Pedro de Alcántara, Puerto Banús and Elviria. South-facing Marbella terraces benefit from larger projection awnings to give full afternoon shade, and we frequently combine retractable arm awnings with vertical drop awnings on the same property to manage both overhead sun and side glare.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install awnings across the Costa del Sol?

Yes. Our showroom is on Carretera de Mijas km. 3, and we install across Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Calahonda, La Cala and the surrounding areas.

What is the most popular awning style on the Costa del Sol?

Retractable arm awnings are by far the most popular for residential terraces. They give full shade when open and tuck back when closed. Cassette versions are common for exposed coastal properties because the fabric is protected when not in use.

Are your awnings manual or motorised?

Both. Most modern installations are motorised, often with wind and sun sensors that retract the awning automatically. We also fit manual awnings where the customer prefers, and we can retrofit motors to many existing setups.

How long does an awning last on the Costa del Sol?

A well-specified and well-installed awning will typically last 10 to 15 years on the coast, with the fabric often replaced once during that life. Coastal properties exposed to salt air benefit from cassette systems, which extend fabric life significantly.

Can you install an awning over an existing pergola?

Yes. We supply veranda and pergola awnings that run on guides between two supports, including options that integrate with existing wooden or aluminium pergolas.

How much does a custom awning cost?

Prices vary by size, brand and motorisation. As a guide, a quality 4-metre retractable arm awning starts in the low thousands of euros installed. We provide a free, no-obligation quote after a home visit.

Do you supply awnings for businesses and shops as well as homes?

Yes. We work with restaurants, hotels and retail premises across the Costa del Sol, including drop-arm shopfront awnings (palillería) and terrace awnings for hospitality.

Do I need permission from my community to fit an awning?

In communities of owners (urbanizaciones), the answer is usually yes. We help customers prepare the documentation their community needs, including dimensions, fabric colour and any motorisation details.
